Mechanical contractor and HVAC custom manufacturer and builder Environmental Air Systems of Greensboro is adding about 200 jobs as part of an expansion at the Reedy Fork Logistics Center along U.S. 29 in northeast Greensboro.
The new facility in 500,000 square feet will double the company’s manufacturing floor space, allowing it to meet growing demand for modular systems, according to the company’s announcement of the expansion. Triad Business Journal had reported in February that EAS was slated to occupy the facility.
Founded in 1953, Environmental Air Systems provides design-build and design-assist systems in a variety of industries and applications.
It works in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; piping and plumbing; sheet metal; and building automation controls. It also custom engineers, designs and builds HVAC systems installed throughout North America, according to the company website. It has facilities in Greensboro and High Point and an office in Raleigh.
Subsidiary company Envirotrol LLC works in controls and service for maintaining building environments.
Among Triad projects the company lists as recent work is Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Health West Campus Medical Plaza II, where it provided mechanical contracting, two custom air handlers for operating and sterilization rooms, air handling for non-critical areas, and medical gas piping and mechanical services such as water boilers, exhaust fans, chillers, and related ductwork, piping and plumbing.
It also notes its work at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and highly specialized and controlled systems for drug company GlaxoSmithKline and biotech Biogen Laboratories in Research Triangle Park.
“EAS is in its 70th year of operation, and we are excited to continue growing our manufacturing presence in Guilford County, where we have been located since 1953, Senior Vice President for Manufactured Solutions Allen Absher said in the chamber’s announcement. “The location extends our accessibility to a large workforce as we look forward to adding new talent to our family and growing our footprint within Guilford County community.”
Reedy Fork Logistics Center is listed by The Silverman Group of Basking Ridge, New Jersey in its portfolio of sites. It has 148 acres off U.S. 29. A 20% interest in the 500,000-square-foot industrial building there was sold recently to another New Jersey real estate investment firm.
The expansion was facilitated by the Guilford County Economic Development Alliance, which consists of the Greensboro Chamber and High Point Economic Development Corporation. Also involved were the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the city of Greensboro, Guilford County, Duke Energy, Guilford Technical Community College, Guilford Works, Piedmont Natural Gas and the N.C. Department of Commerce.
“When a company chooses to expand their existing business in Greensboro it is a testament to the opportunities and strong and prepared workforce that our community has to offer,” chamber President Brent Christensen said.
